Music is an integral part of our lives, so why not make it an essential component of your event? The key to including music in your corporate event is including it in the early stages of the planning process. However, be aware that there are a couple of things you should consider before taking this decision.
1.Your agenda
Make sure that you define the role that music will be playing in your event. Determine whether it’s going to serve as background entertainment for added ambience or whether it’s going to be your the event’s ‘big finish’. Once you define your agenda, you can also adapt the music’s volume to suit the event’s different needs e.g. low background music during the sit-down dinner, and louder tunes during the socializing part of the event.
2.Event type and level of formality
Different genres and musical setups fit different scenarios. Consider a classical pianist or a string quartet to charm your VIP guests at a sit-down dinner party. On the other hand, a DJ would be perfect for your delegates to let loose at your afterparty!
3.Demographics and Background
Take into consideration the cultural background and the age of your attendees. Go that extra mile to make your guests feel at home by curating a customized playlist that will definitely go down well with your attendees. Alternatively, a mix of genres and styles is always a safe bet, ensuring that there’s something for everyone!
4. Should you opt for a live band or a DJ?
This depends on a number of factors. A DJ is definitely more budget-friendly and is more versatile than a band in regards to the playlist. Furthermore, a DJ can usually perform with little to no breaks, while bands may only be able to perform for a maximum of four to five hours, including breaks. On the other hand, bands provide that specific atmosphere that only live music can offer. Depending on the budget, you can opt for different setups at different stages of the event.
5.Location & amenities
The musical setup you choose must fit the event’s location in terms of space as well as technical capabilities. If the venue doesn’t offer sound and lighting options, it may be easier to opt for something acoustic. On the other hand, a band may be a better fit than a solo jazz saxophonist in a fully-equipped and grand conference hall. Ensure that your venue can cater to your ideal music set-up, and check with your band or DJ that the acoustics, technical & staging equipment present at the venue will showcase their talent in the best possible manner.
